Demo Lens Installation
Addressing waste in the eyewear industry

Although essential for maintaining spectacle shape and improving customer experience, temporary demonstration lenses contribute to a huge waste issue within the eyewear industry. Being made from varying plastics, and covered with anti-reflective coatings, recycling these lenses can be a complicated process that often involves shipping waste across the globe to specialist recycling facilities.
To spotlight this issue, I developed the concept for a window installation that not only helped transform some of MONC's waste but also started important conversations with our community. To bring the project to life, I enlisted the help of a York-based kinetic artist, The Illuminist.
This installation repurposed over 1,400 demo lenses.
